a2z Inc. Version X
For the Version X release of an industry-leading event management solution, a2z Inc. asked me to assist with re-branding their entire product line. I helped to develop a series of print ads, product sheets, and a high-level website content plan--all under the new tagline: Three platforms. One solution. Each of the three platforms focused on key benefits to customers, with value propositions of 10 words or less.
Be Inspired Awards
Bentley's Be Inspired Awards competition showcases excellence and innovation in the design, construction, and operation of architecture and engineering infrastructure projects around the world. Since 2009, I have distilled the multi-page entry forms into concise, 125-word project summaries. Award finalists in 20 categories are featured on the Be Inspired website leading up to the annual Innovations in Infrastructure Conference. After the conference, Bentley publishes the Year in Infrastructure, featuring all winners, finalists and entrants. Showcase editions highlight projects by category, country and industry.
Casa Segura is a non-profit organization dedicated to stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C among injection drug users and other at-risk populations in the city of Oakland and throughout Alameda County, CA. As a volunteer on the Taproot Foundation Basic Web Site Service Grant project team, I created the site architecture, outlined the content and wrote the copy for a new website that reflected Casa Segura's breadth and depth of services.
Convention and Entertainment Centers, Kansas City
As senior content developer for HNTB's Technology Group, I led development of the City of Kansas City's Convention & Entertainment Centers Web site to market its facilities nationwide. The site won a 1999 Bronze Omni Intermedia Award. KCCEC subsequently retained me for copywriting, marketing and promotion. The Kansas City Convention Center site of today showcases the same stunning facilities.
Daniel M. Center for Behavioral Change
The Daniel M. Center for Behavioral Change provides individualized educational programs and specialized child care for 6-12 year olds with diagnosed emotional, behavioral and learning disabilities. I volunteered to help the founder create a new website that reflects the center's mission and programs and provides resources for families. Working with a site designer, I planned and developed the content, then guided the project from design through testing and delivery.
FloorplanGenie Powered by a2z
a2z Inc., the leading
trade show and conference management solution provider, introduced a free online floor plan management service that would bring innovative technology to smaller B2B events. The new product launch included a microsite, fact sheet, product comparison sheet, oversized postcard mailer, tri-fold brochure and half-page print ad. I wrote the copy for the microsite, then repurposed the content for each of the marketing pieces.
H&R Block Intranet/Portal
H&R Block Performance Support retired “e-Coach Max M. Effort,” the fictional electronic coach who ran monthly drills for Situational Leadership® training graduates, and replaced the monthly e-newsletter with a new, business-focused “E Coach” section of the MyBlock portal. I wrote the inaugural articles featuring first-hand reports on the value of using Situational Leadership®.
The HNTB Companies
HNTB retained me to plan and develop content for the Bridges, Construction Services, Environmental Engineering, Highways and Technology Group sections of the HNTB Companies website, which won a 2000 WebAward. When the company prepared to launch an all-new site for 2005 in conjunction with a new brand identity program, I delivered a high-level content plan and style guide for the development team, and wrote the home page and About section content.
Preparing to launch a new product at the 2007 Business for Social Responsibility Conference in San Francisco, Hokura retained me to advise them on marketing strategy and positioning to reflect their current offerings. I teamed with Metography to plan and execute a new website, including downloadable product sheet, case studies and press releases. We also delivered a table-top exhibit as a backdrop for their product demo at the conference. (In 2009, Oviya Systems spun off as the exclusive vendor for the TransparentCMS product line.)
Branding agency Jacobson/Rost retained me to ghostwrite blog posts for Kalahari Resorts & Conventions. The series of nine weekly posts covered topics such as The Best Mobile Apps for Audience Engagement and Technology Forrcast: Event Management is Moving to the Cloud, which engaged the audience of professional meeting planners looking to optimize their events at the convention center.
Kansas City Plant
As a subcontractor for lookandfeel new media, I developed online content for the Kansas City Plant (KCP), a National Nuclear Security Administration facility managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies. Kcp.com won a 2002 Bronze Quill Award for Excellence from the Kansas City Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.
Prior to the launch of OnPeak, the high performance housing company formed by the merger of Travel Technology Group and Ambassadors, I was retained to edit the new website content for "brand spin" and search engine optimization. Working with a draft that was 66% complete, I reviewed the branding guidelines; identified SEO key words; rewrote and reorganized the draft copy for style, clarity and scanability; and repurposed content from the parent websites to fill gaps. This draft went through subsequent interations as the new company discovered its voice. OnPeak is now part of the GES Global Network.
West Virginia Department of Transportation
The West Virginia Department of Transportation retained HNTB to redesign its Web site in conjunction with engineering services provided by the firm's Charleston, W. Va., office. As a subcontractor to HNTB, I created a new site architecture to communicate the core message: WVDOT connects West Virginia and the world.
