Affordable Meetings Sourcebook
The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International's Affordable Meetings Sourcebook is an annual directory of facilities and suppliers. I edited the 1999 edition as a contract editor for Ascend Media. In addition to updating existing copy, I wrote new content on meeting technology.
Burton Group Reports
Burton Group publishes in-depth technology research and advisory reports on application platform strategies, identity and privacy strategies, networks and telecom strategies, and security and risk management strategies. I have provided technical editing services for selected reports, as well as copywriting and copyediting services for marketing collateral and online content.
CMP Candidate Handbook and Application Kit
Earning the Convention Industry Council's Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation requires on-the-job experience and careful preparation for the CMP Examination. The CMP Candidate Handbook and Application Kit is a step-by-step guide. I edited the 32-page handbook and application instructions.
Convention Industry Council Manual, 7th Edition
Published by The Convention Industry Council (CIC), the CIC Manual is a comprehensive guide to managing meetings, conventions and events. The 350-page book is the primary reference for the Certified Meeting Professional exam. As managing editors, Martha Collins and I worked with nearly 70 industry volunteers to deliver the 7th Edition within six-months and ahead of schedule.
Managing Corporate Meeting Spend: 2004 Benchmark Survey
seeUthere Technologies partnered with the MeetingsNet to conduct a survey about how companies collect and leverage data related to meeting and event expenses. I wrote a white paper that presents a summary and analysis of the survey results, along with conclusions about the implications for future meeting management initiatives. The report became the basis for a Webinar and special advertising section.
Memoirs by Edward D. Losch
In his memoir, Never Could Hold a Job, Edward D. Losch recounts how hard work and personal integrity led to a fulfilling career in corporate America. His second book, Fishing Holes Are Where You Find Them, revisits nearby and far-flung fishing destinations. I self-published his books so he could share them with friends and family.
Professional Meeting Management, 4th Edition
Published by the PCMA Education Foundation, Professional Meeting Management is a college textbook and definitive resource for meeting professionals. As managing editors, Martha Collins and I worked with more than 55 industry volunteers to update and expand the five-year-old 3rd edition. The 456-page book was published in May 2002.
The Year in Infrastructure
Published annually by Bentley Systems Inc., the Year in Infrastructure recounts some of the world’s most innovative infrastructure projects. This publication showcases the extraordinary work of engineers and architects who use Bentley software to design sustainable roads and bridges, buildings, water and wastewater facilities, utilities, mining and metal plants, oil and gas production, power generation, military and other operations.
For the 2009 Edition, I wrote more than 250 project descriptions over eight months, then recapped 50+ award-winners and finalists for the Be Inspired! awards program. For the 2010 Edition, I managed a team of three writers to deliver more than 350 project descriptions within the highly compress 6-week schecule. In 2011, I had three months to write the 350 project descriptions award recaps.
Bentley has since repurposed the content of the Year in Infrastructure into market-specific special editions, which include both project summaries and in-depth case studies about projects in each market area, such the Water Project Showcase. The case studies are also repurposed content that I wrote for Bentley's Be Current magazine. As one Bentley executive said, "This is packaged collateral that sells."
